Community Representation
Working It Out representatives sit on a number of Government and non- government agency LGBTI reference groups and committees. Involvement in these groups enable us to provide policy advice, up to date research information, current trends within the community and to act as a direct advocate for community members, ensuring your voice is heard. Working It Out also offers support to community groups and individuals though auspicing of the group, particular projects and events.
Some of the reference groups, committees and groups WIO are involved with include:
Department of Health and Human Services
This reference group works with the Department of Health and Human Services to improve their services to LGBTI people across all the agencies within this Department. Some of the important work to come out of this group includes: LGBTI Needs Analysis including state-wide service audit Input into Diversity Officer Training Development of Agency/Service Checklist
Tasmania Police Department
Police Cadet Training Police Liaison Officer Training
Department of Education
Talking Out Newsletter Additions to the Anti-discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy
Sexuality Education Interagency Group
Primarily a networking group involving key Tasmanian organisations working in the area of sexual health and wellbeing
Tasmania Together
WIO was the first community organisation to enter into a Tasmania Together partnership with the State government. In this role WIO works with the Tasmania Together Progress Board to monitor and develop measurement tools and processes relating to relevant benchmarks.
Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Steering Committee
WIO has a role to ensure LGBTI perspectives are represented
Gay and Lesbian Community Centre (GLC)
WIO supports the work of the GLC though auspicing events and committee involvement
Tasmanian Lesbian and Gay Rights Group
WIO supports the work of the TLGRG though auspicing, events and committee involvement
League of Gentlemen (LOG)
